My Son Is Starting To Spit Out A Lot Of His Food?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

He use to be a great eater, now we are getting a lot of him spitting food out. Mainly a lot of meat, cheese, and starch. Basically he's just not wanting to swallow it. I've tried feeling all around his mouth and rubbing his throat to see if I see any signs of pain and notta. He's not doing this with all food, and he's having no issue drinking. It's just starting to become more and more frequent. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this? Doc appointments are two months out and I know she'll… read more

My son has started to do this with everything apart from crisps like wosits/ Quavers. I've no idea why or what to do but I'm going to try the giving one thing at a time idea and see if that works better than a plate of food. I know it won't work of anything like pasta as he needs assistance using a fork and that still gets spat out. It's a shame as it means we can't go anywhere to eat and we used to enjoy we days out.

For us is was a texture issue caused by sensory issues. It's still going on today and smelling and investigating food is a major thing. Diet is limited!

My kiddos dentist weighed in one side of my kiddos mouth had more baby teeth than the other which had adult teeth. Primary care Dr may check to make sure he is still growing and not losing too much weight !!for my kiddo a combination of food therapy and nutritionist helped to supplement the foods he can’t tolerate at the moment. They have programs at some children hospital that look at his bite! Whether the food gets shoved to the back of the mouth(to certain teeth) or to one side of the mouth to the other, or if it is sensory related likes the juice from orange rather than the pulp or actual fruit

Loose tooth or getting a tooth? Like popcorn? Popcorn husk in gum? I agree with others, if nothing medical OT should help! Good luck
