My son is 5 and when excited he likes to bang his head against the couch. Have anyone experienced this and if so what did you do to stop it? Hope you all have a blessed day.
I find redirecting my son really helps with this. We have a trampoline so he can bounce and use it when he stimms alot maybe you could try this x
I agree with @A MyAutismTeam Member the redirection is usually what we go for when harmful or dangerous stims are being performed. Our son can hit and slap his head and we find it can be a sign he's in pain. We give him his Calpol and see if it settles. (Our son has teethed 8 years painfully broke in new teeth. Currently has about 5 big teeth in) We have an indoor swing it attaches onto of any door frame, brand is gorilla gym, you can get them 2nd hand on ebay or the resale sites. Our son swings when he's constipated, frustrated, happy, sensory seeking, loves to swing away his energy. Tiny indoor trampoline also a good distraction or redirection activity. They get to sense that huge feedback of their feet hitting the trampoline and the tension on the joints etc from jumping. I hope this helps. The self harm type stimms can be frightening to watch! Yes ash was huge in headbanging floor, furniture and my head. She kinda outgrew it on her own. Still headbands a little now kinda hits her head with hand. But rocks back n forth alot more.
My guess he will outgrow. I used just try n get her focus on a toy when she was doing that.like pull her attention away
