Members confirmed that an 18-year-old with autism can qualify for SSI and food stamps, with the most important advice being to ensure any bank account in the child's name has less than $2,000 to avoid disqualifying asset limits. Several members shared practical guidance, including gathering evaluations from doctors, psychologists, and therapists to support the application, applying for SNAP benefits through the state, and opening a no-fee checking account at a trusted credit union to manage funds. A recurring theme was the often lengthy SSI approval process, with one member still waiting months for a decision, and the community's willingness to offer both procedural tips and moral support during what can be a frustrating and confusing journey.

Make sure you don't have a bank account for your child with more than 2,000 dollars in it . You will need evualations from doctors as well. Once you qualify for SSI food stamps are easy to get.
