My Child Was Diagnosed With Autism When He Was Three
My child was diagnosed with autism when he was three. He is now 7 years old. I have major concerns for him. He steals food. He hides it when he's eating it. I wouldn't care so much cause just food. But now he's stealing other people's food. Going into other people's bag and taking stuff. I'll put ny work bag up high and he still manages to get it. He knows what he is doing. Maybe you should be teaching your kid to return things he takes without permission, instead of hitting him when you've found out he's done it
Are you really sure he knows it's "wrong" and not that he knows you're going to punish him for it?
You should focus more on making sure you're communicating with him properly than punishing him for behaviors that might be rooted in something deeper.
Are there any concerns with his pediatrician for maybe an ADHD diagnosis as well? This sounds like impulsiveness to me. My son has both ADHD and Autism, and before adhd treatment, he used to do a lot of things similar to what you mentioned.
Maybe he's hungry? I used to tell my daughter I'll break your toys if you don't have respect for other peoples' things. You don't mess with others' personal possessions. My nephew didn't learn that lesson. He was a drug addict and thief. He got a 10 sentence in prison and he's still there.
