My son has done this for a long time. He's happy, in a good mood, smiling and then all of a sudden he throws himself back and starts screaming and gets upset. I'm so confused to wether he's hurting or just angry about something that I can't tell or understand. My husband says the same thing about it too. I'm just wondering if any other parents witness this with their children. Usually when this is happening I'll ask my son do you have ouchie? What's wrong? When I say anything to him at the… read more
I have a non verbal almost 5 year old, so when I’m unsure what is upsetting him, I have a laminated card with a big ✅ on it and a big Red Cross ❎, that but in red , then I can ask questions to rule out things eg “dose you tummy hurt “ and he can now point to answers yes or no, once they understand it then it’s a great tool to use indoor and outdoor.
My son does this. Sometimes it's physical discomfort like dental issues or ear infections, constipation or stomach upset. Sometimes the world is too noisy. Sometimes mom picked the wrong YouTube video or the TV is overwhelming. My son is nonverbal. I observe and guess as best as I can. Sometimes it involves doctor or dentist to rule things out. Stomach discomfort and constipation can be an issue for a lot of our kiddos.
Yes- this happens a ton with my son, but he is extremely sensitive to noises, visual stimuli and has an amazing memory. Sometimes he hears noises we can’t hear unless we really really try super hard to find, sometimes one little thing in his vision gets changed- like the sun going behind the clouds or a light breeze makes some leaves move. Other times he suddenly remembers something that happened and it makes him extremely upset- like he remembers that the door was open and now it’s not. Or he remembers dad is not home while he’s playing a game with me. All of these and much more send him an into a fit and screaming. It usually takes intense detective work to figure out what happened, and sometime we have no clue and cant figure it out. We know it’s something, just can’t figure it out. And when we ask him and it’s not the right thing that happened he gets move upset and cries harder because we can’t understand him or what happened. It’s tough!
