Parenting Friends Of Neurotypical Kiddos Not Understand Neurodivergent Kiddos
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have a group of friends who have been such great mom friends. But ever since Johns Diagnosis they seem to not be as helpful. They don’t quite understand the demands of therapy and ABA and the schedule juggling. They try to help but often I find them more annoying then helpful. They even try to talk to me about their Neurotypical kiddos problems at school and I try to help but also find myself getting annoyed at there problems as well. Does anyone else feel this way. Is it part of the process… read more

Thank you this makes me feel less alone that I feel this way. My friends are great moms but I sometimes wish their biggest struggles are only half of what I have to deal with on a day to day.

Ah, this one is so tough. I completely understand hiw you feel. I have a friend wuth two neurodivergent kiddoes and its soooooo nice to talk to her cause ‘she knows’. Fir me, I actually cut waaaay back at work to focus more on my son (and my two ither NT kiddoes). My friends still bug me about going back to work fulltime, say i had potential, and have no concept of how this IS my work. It tajes up so much if my brain space and self regulation tabks. Yes, when they say their kid is not remembering to put their toys n shoes away I stare at them wishing those were my biggest hurdles. I guess, if I channel my husband here, he says they’ll never know, but they gave good intensions. So, all that to say, this is the perfect place to open up about that stuff. We all have our own story, but i think most of us have a good sense of what 150% parenting looks like lol!!
