Also could you try or have you tried talking to him about maybe the last time he went out.. did something bad happen? Did something fun happen? Maybe he can think of something fun to do outside and you can help him? You could help him get the gear that would help him feel safe like headphones, etc. My kids don’t often answer me when I talk to them like this but if I have a few talks with them, with no pressure to do it right now, sometimes they ease up a bit on their objections. I think sometimes they don’t feel they have control to feel safe, or that I don’t understand them. So maybe that’s why it helps.

@A MyAutismTeam Member, It may be a reaction to the soap you use for doing your laundry, or even over-sensitive feet (like My Son experiences).
Could be the sun it too brite, or outside smells too strong, or even allergies.

Could you try skipping getting dressed - or any change that disrupts the routine and habit of refusal? I focus on the reward - going for a nice drive, getting a popsicle, counting trucks, anything they would like (mine are littler), and I just accept that it might mean they are in their PJs and barefeet… 🍀

Sounds like anxiety. Maybe if you can do some things he likes like a video or snacks in or near the car, he will gradually get more comfortable or try to change things like the noise level, temperature, seating. I hope it gets better.

Is your son verbal or nonverbal? My son sometimes has anxiety about going or being outside. He is 13 and nonverbal. A lot of times pictures about what is happening next are helpful for him, like if the school bus is coming, a school bus picture or for the park a picture of swings. If getting dressed is where the hold up is, maybe there is a sensory issue with clothes or tags. I also lead out the door with a lot of favorite candy if I have too.
