My sons are nonverbal and communicate with AAC device.

As long as everyone keeps consistent the child will benefit from it.

When my son was younger, he used an AAC device. It was helpful, but then he decided not to use it because he preferred using short sentences or PECS.

I think some things about it are difficult. For instance, staying on top of changing the pictures so unavailable choices are also unavailable on the tablet, timing to where choices and pictures are available at appropriate times. My son will sometimes pick the area between pictures. I think he does better with the physical pictures but they are introducing the tablet at school. He has been exposed to it at other times.

Yes device breakage and throwing are a problem for me as well.
