My kiddo started communicating at 5. Still has a lot of incomplete sentences and also a lot of the same beginnings of sentences. I call him my Bumblebee (from Transformers) because my kiddo uses script from movies and shows to tell me what’s happening or what he wants to share.

My son was in Early intervention and when he turned 3 he received speech therapy and ABA, and OT. He started talking 4 years old but it was difficult to understand him. By age 6-7 he was talking more, and the speech therapy helped. Another reason it was difficult to understand him (only I and those working closely with him did) is because he was also diagnosed with apraxia.

My daughter started talking early while my son didn't start talking until he was 4.

Middle school but his sentences are fragments at times. He go to school with regular ed students that helps with speech!! But is more difficult socially. It's always something.

I also did closed captions when he watched movies and he would read aloud. My son is in highschool now so reach out? There ain't much aI haven't experienced 😜

Some kiddos on the spectrum remain nonverbal and that's totally ok! You could maybe work with a sign language therapist to aid his communication until he becomes more verbal, if he will (not sure how or who would teach sign language to nonverbal autistic, someone on here may know).
