We called it the communication notebook and that's how I knew how both of my kids' days went. I forgot about that and it's a great idea. You also write how things went after your child came home from school too. I never had a problem w/ the teachers when using this. Thanks for mentioning it Catherine6 !

I can relate to your post. I've had to bring in Educational Advocates to go w/ me to the meetings. I've also had professionals who know my child well, call on the phone at the meetings to give their perspective.too.

I have had great communication with my son's team. They have been creative with coming up with solutions for various issues. My IEP meetings are exhausting but I'm grateful for the effort everyone puts in to help him. I have them during the school day.

His special ed teacher uses Remind app for communication. His prior special ed teacher wasn't as good communicating or coming up with solutions. Not sure she had experience with spec ed. I used to get called several times a week. Now I only get it on occasion. I have been blown away by their persistence and effort to help my son. He also has adhd. He is on vyvanse and I'm pretty pleased with the results. His impulse control is still terrible but it does help his focus.

He was eligible for an advocate through our county board of developmental disabilities. You may want to see if your son is eligible. They will attend IEP meetings with you and make sure needs and services are being met. Unfortunately some schools are better than others in regards to their special education classrooms. I hope you can get the help you need for your son to succeed. You are not alone.

Thank you I know my post and reply are lengthly and venting. But it is nice to feel seen about these endeavors anyone i try to relate to about it just kind of glazes over it, I am not struggling on how to be of help for them I just keep seeing a lack of communication, ive started scheduling phone meetings because I've become so frustrated at the meeting, or overwhelmed with the in person ones and its typically in a time frame I dont have anyone to watch my son during, and if he comes along he is treating the class like a jungle gym or out of routine and not understanding why we are there outside of school hours. Which is hard to focus on the topics but then again the goals/ topics/ fall short to me if a person is not checking inbetween. Like if they are choosing words and visuals as help that I am not where it can confuse or upset a child who likes routine and constant simular goals it goes backwards vrs be productive. Everyones different i know and has different goals, this year we have got a new slp to step up for us and our OT has ran into this issue with our school be it emailing and receiving no reply or a hard time being on the same page. Its just an unfortunate situation

Thank you for your reply as well, I like the idea of a booklet that goes back and forth and will be inquiring about that, we do use agendas but at this point it doesnt really seem to help, ill get an email for so and so, a call and or a note in there and half the time its all he said she said which makes it hard to keep track, ive tried tagging everyone now a days in the same one message emails but only get one or two responses in a week from the group. Ive asked for zoom meetings and was called with staff in a room on speaker. I feel im living in the stone age for something that should be easier considering technology now a days lol.
