What sensory toys work best for a 10-year-old boy with autism who enjoys building blocks?

Since he already loves building blocks, Legos are a fantastic choice that many parents of children with autism recommend. They offer both the building experience he enjoys and tactile sensory input.

Other sensory toys that parents have found helpful include:

* Sonic toys (toys with sounds and vibrations)
* Plushies with different textures
* Puzzles (which combine problem-solving with tactile feedback)
* Interactive toys like My Keepon

Building-focused toys work especially well because they provide repetitive, predictable activities that can be calming while also engaging fine motor skills. The tactile feedback from snapping pieces together or feeling different textures can be satisfying for sensory needs.

Consider letting him help choose which toys appeal to him most. Many kids with autism have strong preferences for specific textures, weights, or types of sensory input, so involving him in the selection process can help ensure the toys will actually be used and enjoyed.

Tactile and fidget toys
Slime, putty, and kinetic sand: Help with focus and provide a soothing texture to manipulate.
Stress balls and fidget toys: Offer a way to release anxiety and can improve focus.
Sensory balls: Can be used for engagement and are often designed with different textures or lights.
Chewable jewelry: Provides a safe way to meet chewing needs and can be discreet.
Weighted and pressure-based toys
Weighted blankets, stuffed animals, or vests: Provide deep pressure, which can have a calming effect and help with anxiety.
Compression swings or body socks: Offer a feeling of being hugged or wrapped, which can be very calming.
Visual and auditory toys
Noise-canceling headphones or earmuffs: Block out overwhelming sounds and create a sense of quiet.
Visual toys: Items like liquid timers, light-up balls, or tranquil turtles can be mesmerizing and help with focus and visual stimulation.
Other sensory tools
Vibrating cushions: Provide a gentle, calming vibration when sat on.
Rainmakers: Offer a soothing, repetitive sound.
Aromatherapy: Scented lotions or weighted neck wraps can provide a calming olfactory experience.

Thank you all so much! I got him some fidget spinners that light up but he didn't seem to like those, what other fidget types work well? Legos are great, I tried those as well but the kit may have been a little too detailed/specific for his taste.
