I stopped taking multivitamins back in September when I was hospitalized. Is it safe? I think I should take supplements because of my age and am postmenopausal.

I take Gummie Multi-Vitamins, because I'm Old.
OTC things usually do not interfere with Prescribed Meds.

Key Considerations for Mixing Supplements and Antidepressants
Safe Supplements: Nutrients like Omega-3, Vitamin D, Zinc, and Methylfolate are often safe and may actually boost the effectiveness of antidepressants.
Risks with Herbal Supplements: Avoid St. John's Wort, which is known to interact dangerously with many antidepressants.
Serotonin Syndrome: Supplements that boost serotonin (5-HTP, SAMe, St. John's Wort) combined with antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs) can cause serious symptoms like agitation, rapid heart rate, and confusion.
Check Ingredients: Always check the full list of ingredients in a multivitamin for high-dose herbal components, and notify your doctor or pharmacist about any new supplement you start taking.

I take vitamins daily, specifically methylated B6-B12 and D+K2. I've also taken multivitamins and have never noticed any ill effects :)

Is it safe to take multivitamins with antidepressants?

This is an important question to discuss directly with your doctor. While the search results don't provide specific information about interactions between multivitamins and antidepressants for people with autism, your healthcare provider can review your specific medications and health situation.

Since you stopped taking multivitamins during your hospitalization, your doctor likely had a reason for that decision. Before restarting any supplements, it's essential to check with them first.

Why talking to your doctor matters:

- They can review potential interactions with your current antidepressants
- They can assess whether you actually need supplementation based on your individual health needs
- They can recommend appropriate types and doses if supplements are right for you

Many people with autism take medications for related symptoms like depression and anxiety. Your doctor can help you safely manage all aspects of your treatment plan together.

Never start or stop any treatment without consulting your healthcare professional first.
