Mental/self help since I went through a lot of struggles in a short period of time.
Self help included diet education and getting family support So I guess on an over concentrator to your question.

@A MyAutismTeam Member that sounds like a great weight for his height! 🙂 I'm 5'7 and my goal weight is 225. Will I be overweight for my height? Yes, but it's sure a heck of a lot better than being 100 more than that, which is where I'm at now!

What areas should you focus on most for yourself or your child with autism?

Many parents find that balancing multiple areas works best, but priorities often shift based on individual needs and life stages. Here's what MyAutismTeam members emphasize:

Top Focus Areas:

- Developing strengths - Parents prioritize identifying and building on what their child does well rather than only addressing challenges
- Social skills and friendships - Activities like social skills groups, karate classes, and interest-based clubs (like anime gaming societies) help with making connections
- Self-care for parents - Taking time for yourself, managing your own stress, and staying calm directly impacts your child's emotional state and behavior
- One day at a time - Avoiding over-scheduling and keeping things simple helps reduce stress for everyone

Practical Balance:

A MyAutismTeam member shared how their son gradually built up to a full karate class, which helped with motor skills, energy release, and behavior at both school and home. Another member's college-aged son made friends through an anime gaming club while maintaining a friendship from high school.

The key is recognizing that when you're at your best - whether through exercise, hobbies, or simply managing your own anxieties - you're better equipped to support your child across all these areas.
