I’m supporting an 11-year-old autistic child with a history of eloping in busy parking lots. I’m looking for practical safety strategies and recommendations for harnesses or other equipment that have worked for older children (not toddlers). I’d especially appreciate input from autistic adults, parents, OTs, or educators. What has worked well for you?
I would never have thought of those. Thank you so much!
Maybe you could finally something similar on Amazon. An exercise sled harness is really similar to a bus harness and not super pricey.
This is something I truly have no experience with (it's not something I remember doing), but have you asked your child about it?
I had my son "help Mommy push the cart" and he complied. Then, when we got to the car, put the kids and purse in first, secure them by seat belt, then the items bought.
My son used to run up to oncoming cars with Ford emblems on them.
Our school took back their bus harness since she no longer needs it anymore 😔
