Parents asked for advice on getting their 3-year-old with autism and developmental delays to eat, as he had stopped accepting most foods and was only willing to eat cheese balls. Several members shared that food refusal and extreme selectivity are very common in autistic children, encouraging patience and noting it can take over 100 exposures before a child accepts a new food. A recurring theme was seeking professional support, including pediatricians, OT, feeding therapy, and nutritionists, while using Pediasure or multivitamins to help fill nutritional gaps in the meantime.

Find a good multivitamin that he will take. Ella olla has been. A life saver.
It could be a combo of affidavit, sensory issues and a multitude of things. ABA can also massively help when it come to trying new foods.

Have you heard of ARFID? Please research the term it will help to have this knowledge before feeding therapy.

It wouldn't hurt for ENT to make sure no enlargement of tonsils or adenoids, which can effect swallowing on a small child.

Looks, tastes, smells ect in the Autism world will take time to get foods in.

My son was given the lupron to treat early puberty and that year he ate everything with no hesitation even vegetables! Then after taken off went back to select foods.

Eating cheese balls is not best but it better then nothing. It can take over 100 tries to accept a food, trust me I have 16yrs who struggles everyday and even had her ARFID therapy taken away.

We want our kids to eat balanced meals but they lead their likes and dislikes and we have to respect that.

Keep trying 🥰

My son is 15 and eats a lot and a variety of foods. At 3, he would only eat plain hot dogs with no bun and eggs waffles without syrup and not very much of those and nothing else. All kids are different but he may grow out of it.
