My son has been taking risperidone for aggressive behaviors since March . It has helped him but he has gained a lot of weight . I wanted to change his medication for something else that doesn’t have that side effect . Can anyone give any recommendations?
Our children do not walk around with a sign saying I have this diagnosis WATCH OUT
However, it has become my living nightmare getting qualified resources.
In Baltimore, Maryland there aren't any medical service providers that take kids under three for mental health diagnosis/treatment. Technically no one wants to diagnosis that young or put a child on medication, but my son since 2017 has steadily gotten… read more
Four year old making himself vomit to avoid or prolong bedtime. Not every night but always in bed after getting out and being put back multiple times. I sit and watch the video monitor every night to make sure he doesnt start putting fingers in his throat or do anything dangerous. I also keep a daily log on him and can't find a consistent precursor in the day.
I've got a nearly 4 yo daughter with mild ASD (high functioning) and PDD-NOS who has loads of trouble getting to bed. When she's with her cousin for the weekend we hear she goes right up to bed on her own and is very good about sleep, but at home it's a nightmare. She refuses to even try without me in bed with her and she just rolls and sings and talks until she's so over tired she has a meltdown. Often she'll make me cover her ears tightly to block everything out and… read more
This question is for parents with a daughter or son with Autism on the Severe side. Do any of you have a kid who does this when they are extremely upset ....or maybe they jump up all of the sudden, go to another chair and start whining, crying and screaming? Somehow the thought of seizures crosses my mind, although my daughter doesn't have any of the usual signs of seizures. Sure, it's possible I am missing something. She once had a therapist… read more
Baltimore City CPS illegally seized my son, falsified a Petition because I was advocating for help because his behaviors were becoming concerning. He was not four and n Md there aren't any programs that are available to parents. University of Md Medical Center put him n a crisis room from 4 PM-2Am, refused to admit, called CPS and they have used lies to incriminate me, use of Munchausen… read more

Some ABA is detrimental to the natural communication of some autistics. For instance forced eye contact and trying to stop soothing stimming is harmful. If the stimming isn’t hurting the child or anyone else is can be very soothing and there is no reason to stop it. People want to stop it because they think it looks odd, which isn’t fair to an autistic person. Eye contact is for other people and it overwhelms a lot of autistics, it does not help them learn. Please be very careful in… read more
I'm concerned since I've moved to Texas at the high number of holistic doctors here that have jumped on the Kreb Cycle (digestive cylcle)DNA, chelated therapy for removal of "heavy metals", and high supplementation bandwagon! Parents need to know that some of these "doctors" are claiming to be certified specialist when they are not. ALL of these protocals have never been approved (and have… read more
I am in CA. My son is in kinder (hf asd/adhd). I had an IEP meeting on Thursday & was told IEP is refused since he is near passing grade level & not failing. The issue is he is sitting under a table during most class time if not chosen to be a helper. He has also had a min. Of 5 head injuries since October at school. Tripping, lack of focus/excitement, kicked, head butted (lack of awareness of spatial distance/personal space/lacking social cues.
