Aba
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

How do u know if your child needs ABA?

A MyAutismTeam Member

It’s usually the recommendation of the Dr who diagnosed. If it’s something you’re considering then you’d have an evaluation done just like with other services like speech and OT

How Do You Protect Yourself When Your Child Becomes Violent Toward You?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 10 year old son has become increasingly defiant when I give him very basic instructions (i.e. get dressed, don't go in the bathroom when someone else is in there). Previously, taking away a bracelet or his iPad has been an effective punishment. I warn him that if he does not follow my direction, I will take away a favored object. Lately, he ignores my direction and my warning, and if I take away the object, he comes at me, pinching my arms (until I bleed or bruise), while yelling and… read more

ABA Vs. Speech Therapy
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does it make sense to mix ABA with ST and OT, instead of just doing ABA

My 21 month old son was just diagnosed as being on the spectrum last week. He had already been scheduled to receive speech therapy, occupational therapy, and special instruction due to his language delays and sensory issues. Now that he has an autism diagnosis I'm being told he should get 4 hours of ABA a day; 2 at a center and 2 at home, and that will replace all the other therapies. I still don't even fully believe… read more

Tips For Handling Behavioral Issues At Home Of A Child With Mild Autism
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 5 year old son was recently diagonsed with mild Autism. His opportunities are social interaction & some sensory. He's always so in his own head or acting out his favorite cartoon that he doesn't listen to us a lot of the time. Getting him to stop & focus can be hard. He's currently receiving Speech & O.T services weekly. At school is his very well behaved & the teachers have no issues with him. But, at home it's another story. He has trouble handling his emotions & will have tantrums… read more

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

When I first logged onto the site, everybody was speaking in code. I couldn't understand what they were talking about. Try as I might, I couldn't find anything on the site or the Q+A like a glossary. So, I decided to start one. I'll begin with some of the terms/acronyms I commonly use. Feel free to add the terms/acronyms that you commonly use!

Aspie = A person diagonosed with Asperger's Syndrome
