Virtual school for depressed 12 yr old in public middle school?

Virtual school for depressed 12 yr old in public middle school?

Hi all,
My daughter has mild autism but also severely depressed. Public school triggers her depression and anxiety and she's been in 5 different schools in about as many years. She just started middle school after being kicked out of the alternative school she was in. She's going downhill - doesn't care about anything, no bathing, no interest in previously enjoyable activities. It just kills me.
Now I'm considering taking her out to do virtual school… read more

Can Occupational Therapy help a child learn to stay on task?

Can Occupational Therapy help a child learn to stay on task?

My son has been going to a weekly "life skills" class for just over a year where he gets occupational therapy and speech therapy on an alternating basis. I think the group has been very helpful with his pragmatic speech delay and has given him extra practice with his social skills as well so I am very happy with that aspect of it. However, I don't understand the OT. I had a one-on-one conversation with the OT a few weeks ago to ask her specifically what… read more

Dance sessions

Dance sessions

Hi all, my son is inclined towards music and dance. Couple of months back we got Xbox for our daughter for her love of dance, we started 'JustDance' and within few days we realised our son Ansh is very much interested in following dance steps. He loves to follow steps and enjoys dancing any time. He cannot completely copy the steps, but finds alternative simple movement to copy the difficult steps. I am interested in enrolling him for dance sessions but I don't know if he will work in group… read more

School choices for 16 year old, residential

School choices for 16 year old, residential

I have a 16 year old with Asperger's that was diagnosed a couple years ago by the school psychologist, and now recently evaluated by an independent psychologist. The second evaluation I am not certain I agree completely. My daughter is of exceptional intellect, having been previously given intelligence tests. The psychologist determined she has Level 2 Autism. I think it more likely that my daughter got tired of answering questions. That being said, my daughter has had… read more
