Depakote

Depakote

Is depakene the same thing?my son's neurologist just switches him from Zonegran to Depakene today. I want to know the difference? I asked to switch because the Zonegran was causing negative side effects.

Does anyone have any info- anecdotal or otherwise- on depakote?

Is anyone familiar with Depakote and it's generic form?

Is anyone familiar with Depakote and it's generic form?

Our 7 year old just recently started taking Depakote for aggression, mood disorder and just behaviors in general. I'm wondering if I could briefly speak to other parents etc who's child or children have taken this medicine or who have taken it etc. We're just wanting to know what we need to look for or expect? Thank you.

Aggression and insomnia issues

Aggression and insomnia issues

We had a second opinion about meds. A suggestion was given to try Depakote or Lamictal. He can't take Risperidone due to his brain tumor history and his prolactin level skyrockets. He already takes some Tenex for aggression. His insomnia doesn't help. Melatonin is apparently not working. Suggestions or ideas??

ASD and meds

ASD and meds

My 11 yr old son is taking a lot of meds. Is on 1200 mg lithium a day, 1000 mg depakote a day, .01 mg clonidine 3 at night, and 5 mg resperidone a day. Have had to call police every other week for help because he says he wants to die and tries to hurt himself. He has been in 2 psychiatric hospitals in the past month and they keep increasing meds. The state has now become involved and wants to take custody of him to try to get him off these meds. Is anyone out there dealing with the same issues??? He… read more

Depakote linked to autism in new study. Son's birthmother was on it. Anyone else here have similar history?

Sorry I don't have the information on the study right now...it was a brief reference in my local paper today. I've always wondered if the Depakote taken during my son's birthmother's pregnancy might have something to do with his diagnosis.

He was not diagnosed early, though we knew there were some behavioral differences compared to peers. Went to Child Find when he was 3-4. Not much came of that. They noted… read more

How many have tried their children on Intuniv?

How many have tried their children on Intuniv?

My son is 11 and his nurse practitioner wants to try him on Intuniv. He's currently on Depakote and has been on the same dosage for approximately 2 years. His previous nurse practitioner tried him on Abilify and Klonidine with negative results and I just took him off Imipramene(sp?) and Risperdal a few months ago. Considering the Risperdal intensified his anger and, in the 5 weeks he was on it, he began cutting himself and talking about suicide, I'm somewhat nervous… read more
