My son will be 2 yrs old next month and he is currently receiving 12 hrs/wk of ABA therapy. We have decided to try Floortime as well as RDI in addition to ABA. Not sure the logistics or how it is going to work, but thought an additional therapy would be beneficial. I realize every child is different, but wondering how it went or is going if anyone else has tried these other therapies or is currently using them. I go back and forth as I wonder if increasing ABA hrs would be more… read more
My 2.5 year old son was recently diagnosed with High Functioning Autism by a Psychologist. The doctor said my son has a "complex combination of strengths and weaknesses." He has amazing cognitive abilities, but struggles with speech. He has a huge vocabulary, but uses a lot of jargon and his sentences aren't longer than three words. He has great eye contact, but is behind (or so I'm told) on social skills (i.e. taking turns, sharing) and has some sensory issues. While is isn't potty trained, he… read more
Modern ABA has come a LONG way from its roots. If the SLP's were trained 10-15+ years ago then they probably aren't familiar with what it looks like today. I don't think I would've wanted my DD to do… read more
We are thinking of trying Floortime with our son. Has anyone here tried this therapy? Is anyone currently? What did you think?
I need help on this question:
Which one do you think is better?. Floor time or ABA therapy. My son has been receiving ABA therapy since Jan 2013. I am not happy about the progress. The ABA is happening in the daycare, it is not one-to-one therapy. It is a therapy within the daycare among the kids. I need somebody to tell me about the difference between them.
Our son is 17 months and we are choosing to incorporate both! Just looking for peoples experience in using both. Advantages and Disadvantages?
My son is receiving 20 hours of ABA therapy after school. His principle recommended replacing ABA with Floor-time. She said he would benefit more from Floor-time because he doesn't have behavioral issues. Does anyone know the difference between them? Has anyone's child benefited from Floor-time???
If you could live anywhere in Long Island for a preschool for a newly diagnosed 3 yr old autistic child where would you go (level 2; she is verbal, has a lot of social anxiety, SPD, separation anxiety and self-regulation is tough)?
Does anyone out there know of a Long Island preschool (special needs or otherwise) that uses the dloortime/DIR model or a mix of floortime/ABA? Does that exist?
Many thanks, we are new here and relocating to NY soon from Lima Peru.
I'm looking for some insight from anyone who's had experience with both DIR/Floortime and with ABA. We might be moving our son to a new school who uses DIR/Floortime but our Regional Center thinks it's not as effective or useful as ABA.
ABA is more efficient if applied by certified therapists consistently. floor time can help in addition, I find it great for play time at home. this is just my opinion.
