Car Rides

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Hebron, IN

My 11 yr old daughter is severe and obsessed with car rides. She is constantly wanting to go on them and driving my husband and I nuts. We typically go on 4-5 daily. Each ride has to be a certain route and it has to be around 35 mins. If she doesn't get to go on one, she has horrific meltdowns. It's so expensive on gas, as well as wear and tear on our vehicles. Besides that, winter is coming and there's no way we want to continue driving her like this in the bad weather. We have a behavioral… read more

Prozac

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Uxbridge, ON

Would anyone be willing to share their experiences with using prozac for anxiety with their autistic child. My son is 9 and moderately functional, verbal, but has a great deal of anxiety about going to school. Or separating from us (his parents) for activities.

Prozac works for anxiety but I would trust your doctor's opinion. It takes about six weeks to kick in, and it doesn't work for everyone so he may need to try different antidepressants.

How Did Your Child Respond To Prozac?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Algona, IA

My 8 year old, who has beend diagnosed with PDD-NOW, is on Prozac for anxiety. She started on the lowest dose a month ago. We noticed no change in her behavior, except that she was more irritable. Last week, we upped the dose. She seems even more irritable and today screamed, I'm going to kill myself. I'm not sure that it was a serious threat and maybe just was the worst thing she could think of to scream to show her displeasure. I'm wondering if other children on Prozac have become… read more

Does Anyone Know What The Side Effects Of Prozac Are Given To A 13 Year Old Boy With PDD?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Brunswick, GA

My 13 year old has PDD,nos. He was put on Prozac (generic) about 2 months ago. He has been taking it for anxiety which has cleared up. In the meantime he is regressing in other ways. He fights everything we ask, becoming more disrespectful, more childish, very hyper especially at night. He seems to be getting worst and worst where we don't even want to be with him because we don't know what to expect. Has anyone else experienced this with their child? Help! I honestly don't know what to do… read more
