My almost 4 year old was completely potty trained a few months after turning 3. Now she is about 2 months away from turning 4 and she refuses to use the potty and instead will hide in her room and pee on the same spot on her bedroom floor and then lie about it when I find it. I remind her every hour and even take her to the potty and have her sit on (to much protest) and I've even had her help me clean up her pee on the floor and rinse her panties. Nothing seems to work. Should I put her… read more
We currently live in Pennsylvania and get wonderful help through early intervention for our 2 year old. We may be relocating toward the Outer Banks, North Carolina and was just wondering what type of assistance the state offers if any?
I just found out a week ago that our family is moving to Charlotte, NC in June. My husband's job will be in Pineville. Any recommendations for good public schools for a 4th grader with PDD-NOS? From scanning message boards, Union County and Cabarrus County seem to be the best options. Anyone love a particular elementary school? Thanks in advance!
We are planning to visit Disney World in mid-December and I am at a loss for how to plan for such a trip since I am brand new to "this world". I am also having a hard time deciding which park might be the least overwhelming for my 2 children, one with Asperger's and one with ASD. A trip to the grocery store can be interesting to say the least for me so any insight on how to prepare the children for an 8 hour road trip, a stay in a hotel, and a Disney World visit would be very much… read more
Well I'm feeling a bit stuck
My son has just turned 6 years old
He has been diagnosed with a general moderate learning disability.
When he started school me and the teachers felt that there was something a bit different with him
So we decided to go for an autism assessment. He was first assessed by the educational psychologist. Who diagnosed him with a learning disability. Overall the whole autism assessment process took about just over a year.
I received the report from the paediatrician who… read more
Minneapolis Public Schools won't put my level 5 ASD child in the school that will best fit him.
They put him back in the school that I took him out of due to his aggression etc.... I sent him to a ABA and now I have to put him back in school system temporarily.
Anyone know of a good school in North Mpls that is good with aggressive type ASD?
They just called back and now will look at other schools . Lol! ( He went to Jenny Lind which didn't work)
My son is 4 soon to be 5. He was recently diagnosed with PDD-NOS. We have started looking at schools and speech centers. Now I'm trying to find a psychologist and this is a struggle. I feel like there should be more done for him. Like I'm missing something. I tried reading all the papers and pamphlets and brochures they gave us but it is just overwhelming.
I'm worried that Ryan will be forced to give up his unique perspective to comply and fit into mainsteam classes. He is only in Pre-K and there is pressure being applied to get him out of special ed into regular Kindergarten by next year. I feel they dont know him well enough, and with his delays I think it's setting him up for failure
Can I hear from parents with children that have gone the route into mainstreaming, and some thoughts on how to deal with the fear that my son is going to be… read more
I have found it so difficult and frustrating to get the needed information after an ASD diagnosis. The acronyms and people talking at you instead of answering questions, or answering questions in circles is overwhelmingly frustrating. Then you have to go to meetings to decide what is best for your child when you don't even know what services are available or what your child needs. How are you supposed to know? Isn't there a place where a parent can go that will guide you through everything… read more
