Do you teach how to shake hands? I’m teaching to ask before hugging someone.
I know to teach how to do chores, self care, and how to be polite. I’m not teaching social skills specifically right now.
Yes she’s 7. I’m just trying to get through her morning routine and getting her to brush her teeth and eat her cereal with a spoon.
I see other kids want a drivers license, hunting license, buying things related to their hobbies etc and taking steps to do it. Mine says she wants to drive but won't open the book, wants her HS diploma but won't do the work etc. I am very goal oriented so this is very hard to wrap my mind around.
I think a lot of times people with autism do better at reaching large goals if they are broken down into smaller more manageable goals. At least that's what I have been told in therapy.
My son is 3yrs old with severe Autism and bites himself really hard til his head shakes when he gets frustrated. How can I get him to relieve his stress in other ways?
I have even tried applied pressure wrap in in my arms or in a blanket and it just makes him more mad.

We’re looking at a Montessori pre-school for our son. The woman who runs it has a grown child with autism and says she feels their teaching method works well for children on the spectrum. Anyone have any experience with this who can give me some insight?

I used HCV about 5 yrs ago and didn't like it. Personal, faith based reasons were my driving force. Last year my oldest did a class on FLVS & liked it.
