He is struggling... but I'm not sure what would be best for him. They are currently assessing him, but I was wondering if anyone else has been thru this?
I am almost 26 and my son is 5 and has been diagnossed with ASD,ADHD,Bipolar, and a few other disorders. Although he has many issues he is very high functioning. Our main issues are aggression and meltdowns. However, over the past four months or so the aggression as well as the meltdowns have began to lesson (especially the aggression). Usually when I would think of having another baby I would imagine all the terrible things that could go wrong with my pregmancy and even with a new baby while… read more
It is natural to be concerned but with therapy, ABA or other therapy your 5 year old will learn to calm himself down in time. Having a sibling is really very beneficial for your son. My older daughter… read more
My wife and I have decided to leave North Carolina and move to Roanoke, VA. The BRAAC is there. I visited the school with my daughter and she loved it! North Carolina doesn't have anything really for special needs children. My daughter was in the perfect school setting until the State shut down the school. They discriminated against these students and violated their civil rights. I can't go into further detail as there is a lawsuit pending. Anyway, we are leaving NC for VA. I have a degree in… read more

Has anyones child ever open and closed hands and looked at it. The more they looked at it the more agitated it makes them which leads to uncontrollable meltdown. Any information would help. Thanks
My son moves my body parts... My hands, pushes my head up and down and side to side, opens and closes my mouth. It doesn't agitate him though. He laughs. Good luck.
Hi all.. Can someone plz recommend a good aba, ot and speech therapist for my 20 month old son near Hartford , ct area... I looked up provider directory, but most don't accept Aetna insurance for speech therapy ...my only option is ccmc but they don't do home visits ..
he's 11 years old autistic boy who has a lot of issues with brush his teeth, tying his shoes, peeing standing up and splattering everywhere.
My family and I will be moving to Orange County, CA this summer. If any parents from that area have recommendations for special education preschools, ABA companies or speech therapies I would love to hear them. I prefer getting word of mouth, I find it is more helpful especially after the bad companies we had to go through before finding ones we liked. TIA
Thank you ChristineL !
When reading about repetitive behaviors and autism, I mostly see things such as "lining up toys", "sorting things by colors", etc. or they talk of stimming behaviors, "hand flapping", " finger flicking", etc.
So I'm looking for others who have an autism diagnosis who do not or are not affected by those types of repetitive behaviors. Anyone?
My son does sort and organize but he also hugs and enjoys physical contact which is atypical of autism. Just because someones on the spectrum doesn't mean they're going to exhibit every symptom.
My 20 month old son throws a fit when we change his diaper. This is new behavior, within the last two months. I've tried easing him into the process, allowing him to play on the changing table before, changing him in the family room, taking toys or my phone for distraction. Nothing seems to work. He is unconsolable crying, turning over, and pushing me/us away. Any suggestions out there to ease the process?
Mine is 4 now and still in diapers, sometimes he won't allow me to change his diaper but in ABA we are working on first, then principles. This works. I take his iPad, and Say 1st, diaper, then iPad… read more
