RELOCATING ADVICE
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

So I am trying to relocate for Vet school, and I am beyond scared because I dont want to lose the services my daughter currently has. Not that she has many but I don't know which state offers the best Autism services through medicaid. I keep battling between Colorado, Georgia, Texas, Arizona and Tennessee. Any parents on here that can help by giving me some input would be AMAZING! I am so stressed about this all that I am thinking of just giving up.

I am in Texas, but my consultancy is global. I advise parents to move where they (the parents) feel most supported and comfortable. Before the actual move, call that state's committee on people with… read more

Autism Through The Years
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Our son is 2 1/2 and recently diagnosed. We're fortunate in that he does not present with many challenges at this point. He has some speech delay which is showing improvement and he has difficulty with joint attention/responding to his name. He occasionally runs back and forth from the family room to front door but can be redirected. Beyond that, he does not appear to have sensory issues, makes great eye contact, is incredibly loving and seemingly aware of our feelings, is not rigid with… read more

How To Decrease Aggressive Behaviors When Impulsivity And Inability To Accept No Are The Cause
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I need any and all suggestions. I've narrowed the cause of the behavior down to two things, 1. lack of impulse control and 2. can't handle No or not getting what he wants. In any situation that something he wants is denied he hits, chokes, pokes (usually in the eyes). All aggressive incidents were mild in the fact that he pulled his punches to insure no one was hurt. He is not out of control in these incidents but very aware and in control. We had made a lot of progress in this area (actually… read more

Service Dog
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm thinking about getting a service dog. I know a dog will ease my anxiety when we go out. However I NEVER see anyone in my area with a service dog at the grocery store, library or even the park. Is there anyone who has a service dog in the city?

Amalgam Fillings And Autism Severity
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

This article relating odds and severity of autism correlated with maternal amalgam fillings during pregnancy is interesting. http://bit.ly/1qtwsLH

Question:

How many fillings did you (mom) have while pregnant with your ASD child?

On a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being severe) how would you rate your child's autism symptoms?

For 15 Month Old Little Girl And Learning
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi all,

I am the daddy of a 15 months old daughter, she is our first child and we do not have our parents around here. So it took us sometime to realize the symptoms, and get some more information about this condition. She hasn't been diagnosed yet, since I have found out about it last week. After lots of research in a week, I have found this community to ask some questions, hopping to get some answers from people experiencing the condition. This week we are going to take her to specialist and… read more

The best thing to do is get her evaluated by the early intervention team in your area. My daughter got evaluated at 14 months and started therapy at 15 months. We got dx at 19 months. She is now 26… read more

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

we have a high functioning son, going to ninth grade next year. we are in southern NJ and he is already in the alternative classroom as he cannot handle the regular classroom, too much stimulation. he can do the academics, just not the way a typical teacher lectures
Anyway, we have a really good idea of what he will NOT get nor grow in the high school setting especially in the self contained class room...so thinking about pushing for out of district placement for next year. He case manager had… read more
