Joseph missed 2 speech therapy sessions because he was home ill. Can I ask for those to be made up?
Sessions missed due to student absence do not have to be made up, although whenever possible many professionals will provide the courtesy of trying to catch a child off-schedule for a make-up anyway. Just like such absences do not have to be made up for regular school instruction.
Sessions missed because a specialist was absent or in meetings, etc. DO have to be made up.
I agree with Jill. With my sons various therapy sessions, there has been the occasional scheduling issue or illness that causes a missed session on our part or the therapist's. Those things happen now and then. Honestly, we enjoy the down time! Of course if I was about to lose my insurance and those sessions were critical, I might explain the situation to the therapist or ask if there is anything "I" could do at home to help make up for lost time. The worst someone can do is say no :)
It's not worth the conflict in the big scheme of things. Most speech therapists have heavy workloads.... or at least the good ones do. You will create a hardship for that person which may cause them to look at you in a negative way. It's better to build a good relationship with the person that is helping your child.
@A MyAutismTeam Member: Thank you, I just recieved notice that he will be missing another session because his SLP needs to attend an IEP.
Point well taken. Thanks to all for the advice.
