I've been struggling to find a kind, patient instructor to do one-on-one lessons with my son who's mildly autistic. We really want to find one in the West LA area because my little one doesn't like car rides very much.

Try to get Anthony. He's great my son has autism and apraxia and its take awhile but he is able to swim on his own. Anthony is kind and understanding. He has never once shown frustration he makes my 3 year old laugh and enjoy the water. Best of luck

I'm not in the LA area, but I can speak very highly of our local YMCA for 1:1 swim lessons. My 4yr old is mild on the spectrum and has been taking swim lessons since late April. It's entirely at his own pace and his instructor has been wonderful...as have the other instructors at the Y. Maybe give your local YMCA a call and see what kind of vibe you get with them. Good luck!
