This worked with my children: 1) if he's attending school, wait until a long weekend or break to start 2) encourage lots and lots of fluids 3) take him every 15 minutes all day and every day 4) refrain from diapers/pull-ups and the like (geared to keep children feeling dry). Wishing you much success...
Have you spoken with his doctor? it pretty much is up to your son when he is ready I know if you start taking him everyday at the same time no matter if he uses it or not have him take part in it sometimes when my daughter felt she is in charge it works better. Also I put a radio in the bathroom that really worked. Wishing you luck.
Our pediatrician suggested the use of a glycerin suppository for #2 withholding. The child will move his/her bowels within about 15 minutes of insertion. After a couple times using one, the mere THREAT of a suppository became enough to get my DD to go.
Thanks! I will try that this weekend.
I agree with Jaes. We did this with our son just before he turned 5 last summer. I will warn you that it was HARD and frustrating, and the first day I had to do 3 loads of laundry because he would pee a little in the potty and not 5 minutes later he would wet himself. But by day 3, he "got it!"
