Pivotal Response Treatment?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone heard of pivotal response treatment? If so have you done it? Did you feel it works better than ABA? I'm trying to determine the best treatment for my 3.5 yr old son who has HFA and hyperlexia. Thanks

My son has just started both concurrently, for about 10 weeks now. As MyZettel said, no two kids react the same.

I am finding that he has made great progress during the last 10 weeks, but in my opinion, it is more from the ABA than the PRT. It could be a combination of both, it's hard to really say. He only has one more PRT session remaining, so I'll see how he progresses with just the ABA.

My only problem with the PRT was my kid knows that he just has to make a sound to get the reward. Even if he knows the word. I can't reward him for being lazy and not saying a word he knows. So I just worked around certain aspects of it.

I am planning on trying it, but it is a form of ABA. ABA is an umbrella with different approaches. Here is an article that may help. http://www.autismspeaks.org/family-services/too...

We (my 23 year old HFA hyperlexiic and I). Have made it so far. Whatever you do, communication is the key. Use his Hyperlexia. If he can comm with you thru writing, you have a channel. Therapists and teachers have to understand him individually and pretty much invent it as they go on. I wish we had worked more on socialization "workarounds" with him before cuz that's his main concern now. But a huge leap. Care fire his psyche, his psychology, his neurology and his body. As a parent, it's a hard task, but worth it.

I really feel that ABA is the best therapy. I know that it does not work for everyone but i have had such success with it that I may be a little biased.
