I would suggest a neuropsychological evaluation because that will look at the specific strengths and challenges he has. Things like visual and auditory processing, working memory, fine motor skills, IQ, etc.

I guess my question is are you concerned about your child's dianosis. Many people don't want their child rediagnosed because they may potentially "lose" services. Esp in cases where the diagnosis was PDD/NOS but on the other hand how is your child doing? Do you feel this is not accurate. But keep in mind being Verbal/non-verbal is not the only diagnostic symptom... my son has really very scattered abilities. You can always check with a pediatric developmental specialist to see where your child is in their development. As my child's development (who is pretty low functioning) is checked every six months I don't see any qualms with a reassesment.

If he had a speech delay (even if he has now overcome it), then by definition he would not get an Asperger's diagnosis. I'm not sure what would be considered milder than PDD (Non-Verbal Learning Disorder? "Broad Autistic Phenotype"?)

Thanks alot Candid, dr called and will soon have an appointment with a neurologist in Memphis, maybe we can se if its ongoing thing. Also his dr sends to think that maybe because he was non verbal at the time of diagnosis that maybe now that he is verbal, doing well in school although does not talk at school unless asked a question that he might fall somewhere else under the umbrella? Does that sound possible? I know he is Autistic, just wondering if pdd/nos would change since he had came so far from the age of 2 1/2.
