Do You Think ABA Therapies Help At Home?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

We have been doing ABA at home now for almost a year & I sometimes wonder is it helping or is it not ?? It is so expensive & we have been thru 3 different people , not by our choice they left the company & And now my 4yr old knows that he has work , stuff to do when the ABA person comes over & he tells her No & to go home ..His Aggression has seem to getting worse:( Any advice or opinions would be greatful

With a good aba provider, a child ideally shouldn't even think of it as work. My twins aba was so play based they thought it was all pretty fun. Maybe you could get something (like a wii or trampoline or something) that your child would really love and make it just for use as reinforcement during their aba sessions. That way he would have something to look forward to when his therapist was there and would be a real incentive to do the "work"

We had a similar experience where my daughter just wasn't responding to certain therapists and the service we were using was having trouble keeping employees. She started out loving it and then just wanted nothing to do with it after 2 years. So we took her lead and now she is in an ABA clinic that is more like a preschool and most of the time she loves it and is excited to go. It's hard to measure if it is helping because you have nothing to measure against. If you had an identical child with identical skills and challenges and you did therapy for one but not the other...of course that is impossible. But I have to trust the science that kids who have therapy have better outcomes. I notice little regressions from time to time but overall the progress is forward so I think it is working.

We had the same reaction from our son. But, now Had to pay out of pocket to have ABA services at his school. ( Private school setting)Now he is doing great! It was a nightmare trying to get him to "work", sit, attend...etc..

My son is an ABA roller coaster usually he loves his therapist but we recently went through a dry spell where he just wanted nothing to do with them. But yesterday he told one of them "I you you" she smiled and replied "I love you too" that so made his day. I'm hoping we are jumping on another happy spell for chris. Because noone likes it whenhes andgry
