We are considering starting our almost 5 year old on Clonodine as per recommendation of his neurologist. At first we were very skeptical..we've just been doing more homeopathic remedies, B-12 Shots, Omega 3's tried probiotics (didnt work), GFCF..He's also getting speech therapy, OT, and is in pre-school. He's come a long way since we started, but we're starting to feel this is the right time for him to really be focused due to him entering kindergarden in fall. Members shared mixed experiences with clonidine for their children with autism, with some reporting benefits like improved sleep and reduced anxiety, while others described concerning side effects including depression, excessive napping, and emotional withdrawal. Several members emphasized that medication responses vary greatly from child to child, encouraging the original poster to carefully weigh the decision and noting that some families chose to delay or avoid medication entirely in favor of behavioral therapies and natural approaches. A recurring theme was the deeply personal nature of this choice, with parents expressing both hope for focus and progress alongside fears about personality changes and long-term effects.

I was just searching the old questions here to see about this medication. Curious if you don't mind, did you try it? I'm in the same situation. No meds at this point, my son is 14. He is hyper and can have some anxiety ( nothing terrible). Lately he is a bit rough with not listening to us. Nothing terrible or aggressive, wondering if it is puberty. Behaviors are more ocd like and throws empty water bottles. I really don't want to do meds but considering. A neuro here recommended it to us. thanks for your help! :-)
