My 10 year old son with Aspergers is in a gifted class and tends to handle the extra work load OK. He makes friends easily but has a hard time keeping friends. He decided a year ago to join Cubscouts and we were thrilled figuring this would help him build his social skills. He has done very well. What is your worst case scenario if he does all these things? Are you afraid he'll be overwhelmed or that he'll quit or that his grades will suffer?
It's seems like at 10 years old he's at an age where learning a lesson about biting off more than you can chew is low risk. If he doesn't learn that lesson until high school or college it could have wider ranging implications.
