ABA has been fantastic for both of my kids. We have seen so many positive changes and improvements, including potty training, learning to swim, hugely increased vocabularies and abilities to express their needs and wants verbally. Our youngest who we started at 16 months has caught up to her peers in nearly all skill areas. Our oldest who is more severe and medically complex uses a combination of verbal speech and her iPad mini with the LAMP program to communicate. Both of them have fewer tantrums and issues the more they are able to communicate. Our whole family is so much happier and better since starting ABA. We are very in favor.

ABA was effective for us (got our son to sit down for hours), so ABA techniques do work. However, the ABA programming and how the lessons plans are being taught can be hit or miss depending on therapist. The only downside that I saw was some scripted responses or actions that were unnatural or obviously "trained" response. Now, our son does have original spontaneous speech and can construct his own sentences naturally, but whenever he is using an ABA response, you can tell that he is scripting and seems a bit awkward to us. I don't think others can tell as easily though, so it is not a big deal. We have seen far worse.

I have seen a lot of success with my sons ABA therapy only been doing this 7 months maybe helped a great deal teaching him to keep clothes on, follow simple directions, sit down, come here, making progress asking for help not screaming, helped us thru process getting ready and going to school or therapy where for awhile it was total meltdown I often carried him in kicking and screaming. Can really help with everyday issues we face!

Hi I think ABA Therapy is good, because if you think about it we live do ABA everyday. We go to everyday and at the end of the you get a paycheck. That the same idea in ABA therapy the child does what you want and the child get something they want.

As long as you have a good therapist who bonds with your child and brings you into the process, I can't imagine a downside.
