How To Get A Full Time Aide In The Classroom?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Austin is 6 years old and is mainstream in kindergarten. His IEP was already set up but there are new behaviors that are being targeted by it. We are at the point where we will new to have a new meeting and readjust his goals. In the meantime, the school has invited an autism specialist from the district to come to the classroom and observe him and we will go from there. I don't know what to expect. I agree you have to be a pain and keep on them, make sure they know you are not going away. They try the cheap way out and pArents let them get away with it. Push and threaten advocates and lawyers

If they don't add an aide, you don't sign the IEP. At the top of my notes for a recent IEP meeting, I wrote, "Nice guys don't get needed services for their children."

Eva77 thank you , I do agree with you and I think adjusting and adding it into the IEP is the way to go. I called the advocates today and I will take their advice, it makes me feel good that the school can't change his placement without trying all the resources available and without implementing a Behavioral assessment first. Thank you for your words

The only way to get an aid is to have that added to the IEP, and to do that you are going to have the district agree to it. You need to bring up that your child cannot do things without help and they would benefit from the aid. It is kind of late now but ant paperwork from evaluations and doctors that would help that out would be good
