County Services How Do You Decide
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I can not bring my self to call a social worker at the county for his special needs. In my mind it is like saying there will be no more recovery from here. If he can function in society without county money is that not best for everyone? I know he needs a county number for SS and disability financial assistance. I think I might be paranoid that the number means more than just receiving financial assistance, like it could be published somewhere and used against him as an adult. I know… read more

Do not let the label bother you or stop you from getting services. The longer you wait to put off treatments and services the less your child will progress also if there are behavior problems those will get worse as well.

The label will not hold your child back when they get older it will continue to get them services and sometimes you can even use it to get a job because a lot of companies hire the disabled

I have since contacted a county social worker and am scheduled for an in home visit as well as follow up services. Thank you for urging me to do it, it was overdue and now we can take full advantage of the opportunities out there for him.

Bbengtson, I live near you and would be happy to meet for coffee if you would like someone to explain the process for county support.

Hi Stelluna. I am actually in Ramsey County. My biggest struggle at them present is finding a social skills group for my son. I struggled for years to get the most out of his IEP and finally its working for him and not against him. My son is very sensative about talking about his Dad. He was tramatized after his father told him he would be right back and that he was going to work. That was over 3 years ago.
