Thinking about moving from southern CA to FL around the Palm Coast area.
The problem is that they have started to make ASD classrooms but it is an everyone together so they mix more severe children with the HFA. We had issues with our son who is HFA and a child who was aggressive and was hurting the other children in the class. My son would hide under the desk. The teacher and principle denied it was happening until an aide we knew blew the whistle on them.
The teachers do not often have specialized ASD training they just take a few extra courses. The younger teachers coming in are better but it is going to take a while for them to move up.
evak77, well that's not good news :( my son is HFA and is doing well, but the cost of living in CA is high
I do not know how CA is but I can tell you no part of FL is to good. There is no state tax so there are no services, and the schools are well behind the north. You can apply for the McKay grant but it will not cover everything. We spent thousands out of pocket and finally left. I will not even get I go the medical care or the doctors they are as bad as the schools.
