I am trying to prepare for a meeting in January when I plan to formally request my foster son's programming NOT be ABLLS driven. I want some research on the (non) effectivecy of pure ABLLS protocol for adolescents with severe ID (but anything will do).
Yes I really like the VBMAPP, however he is so low that I don't think it would be very helpful. I however have been pushing the school to use VBMAPP for my son, especially when it comes to social/emotional skills.
There is also VB-MAPP which is similar to ABLSS. There is no research on the clinical utility or effectiveness of either approach. I think neuro psych assessment will be even less informative. Whatever the approach, I think parents input should be taken when it comes to the programming as they know their child best.
I disagree, and I have been trained in and worked with ABLLS…It to me teaches splinter skills… I think it is good for the young child because it also teaches compliance, and how to learn (to some degree)…but when a child does not understand cause and effect (even after 6 years of "balls programing") it is past time to move on… I can't even find independent research proving ABLLS as an effective teaching method, let alone research to dispute it :(
They run his program very well from what I have seen, though their error correction could be a little "tighter"…
