All this going on, while yelling at the top of his lungs. Telling him to go sit in his chair, does nothing but make him angrier and if you try to take him to sit down, he just stiffens his whole body and stays in the spot or… read more

We found that we needed to teach the children early that this is not acceptable but as you know it is not that simple. ABA has helped and learning new methods of communication has also helped. Redirecting works to but not always. It is often a combination of all these things that works.

I am trying a new technique I read about, called Mendability. It is where you put different scents to his nose while he is having the tantrum. So far I have only used what I had on hand - a peppermint scent and a perfume roller that I had in my purse. He actually stopped the tantrum immediately in both instances. It didn't last long, but it is a start. I will read more about mendability and try some different scents. I was wondering if anyone else has read about it or tried it?

When my son does that i usually redirect him to something fun or turn it in to a tickling wresting match until he forgets why he was upset in the first place.

SOunds so familiar. My son is tantruming so bad now. His tantrums seem to stem off of his OCD and sensory issues as well as just behavioral. Its so hard to know how to minimize this since its triggered by 3 different issues
