Puberty & Sex Education
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 11 year old, high functioning son is starting to get pubic hair & go through puberty. Any tips on having "the talk" with him? & is it true that some autistic individuals have a higher sex drive in adolescence?

We are going through the same thing! My son will be 12 in September. I'm currently looking for some type of class/seminar that I can go to and get some ideas on how to help my son go through puberty. Hugs to you - I know how you feel : )

Try to find a class about "puberty & ASD," or even "puberty and developmental disabilities," in your area. I think you'll appreciate discussing issues with other parents. Together you can work out what is appropriate for development level, your child's questions, etc. And you can learn and practice proper terminology.
