Regional Center Vs. Easter Seals
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi
My 26 month old girl with autism has been getting therapy help from regional center 3 days a week and it’s 2 hours per session. Recently kaiser insurance offered her ABA therapy from easterseals 5 days a week 5 hours per session. Does anyone know how different is therapy from regional center and ABA from easter seals? Is one better than the other? Should I stay with regional center until my girl turns 3 and then go with easterseals? Or should I start ABA with easter seals right away? Any… read more

@Regional Center vs Easter Seals....... I would Seriously suggest that you take ALL the Services you can Possibly manage to accept and participate in if you Truly feel there will be Sufficient ENOUGH Benefit to your child. I dont know WHAT kind of Health coverage your child has but if your child has Any type of Medicaid or any other State or Government Health Insurance then you could still recieve (ANY and ALL) Services Covered and Paid for by Medicaid or the Other INSURANCE and STILL get (ALL) of the Same Services that your child qualifies to recieve through your childs SCHOOL. (At NO CHARGE). Whatever Help you can get That you Believe will Actually Help your Daughter, Are the Services that you should accept. But most of the time the Services ARE NOT OFFERED unless you Specifically Request them.Often times there is NO Mention of the Services that the Agencies Offer. You Actually have to do the Detective work yourself and Inquire and Ask around just to get the the Help your child is So Desperately Needing.

I would ask questions about the therapy and what they do at each place. and find out if your child could go to both. then if they tell you that she can just go to both. if they tell you that she can't ask them to show you where it says she can't. I would want both to be honest. but if it really isn't possible.. I would want my child to go to the one that worked the best for her no matter what the difference is.

@Regional Center VS. Easter Seals ..........Is there any Rule that states that you cant get BOTH SERVICES for your child? Ecspecially if your child Really Needs the help? If you are told this is Not allowed, then INSIST on asking to SEE WHERE the Rule is WRITTEN....(That is IF the Rule really Exists at All.)If your Child Cannot recieve BOTH SERVICES, I would see if it is Possible to TRY the Other Therapy / Therapist / and Therapy Clinic........BEFORE Deciding to Switch over from One Therapy to Another.Even If you Are Certain that you are going to Switch from one Therapy to the Other ...........I would do it GRADUALLY ........(for 2 Very Important Reasons).First to be Certain that it is the RIGHT Choice for your Child and Secondly to make Certain that you make the Change and Adjustment Easy as Possible for the BOTH of you.
