Make cleaning a game instead of disciplining him. Make it all fun. Then it gets done and there is no anxiety for anyone. Set him up for success. Hope this helps.

Things that put pressure on a child with autism can cause them extreme distress. The lady that said make it fun is right on! I find that children with autism are generally hard on themselves and they don't respond or function in a world they don't understand or don't deem important. You might try looking up sensory processing disorder to get an idea of the things that he is potentially trying to deal with all at once. IT gets overwhelming for them. Many children hear everything the lights hum, the fans, people talk the refrigerator run, everything all at the same volume and try to filter. Hope this helps! You could combine what I originally said with what myeee99 said. Make it fun and give something at the end of say a week of them then doing their "chores"/fun games themselves without your involvement or having to remind them to do so. and keep track of it or better have them keep track of it and have them come and get you to show you how well they played/accomplished the goal. Though the reward system is something I try to stay away from or fade away after a while because once they become adults and get a job they won't get praised like that for doing a good job at their job because doing that is expected of them in order to keep the job. the "reward" them is keeping the job and getting paid. so I praise heavily at first and fade it out. You'll find what works best for you. Making it routine / same time every day might help too. Cleaning off the table as a routine every day works for my son. Just like getting ready for school at the exact same time every day or going to bed at the same time every day whether it's school time or not helps. He actually will start going upstairs to his room for bed even when we forget what time it is. Or when we were going to let him stay up later than typical. In the morning he asks to get ready for school when it gets close to time.
