I don't know about sydney but here in Canberra we have to go through a lengthy assesment process with the dept of ed in order to get recomendations for schooling and which school they can attend. We have schools with just an LSA for the child or LSU or LSU-Autism disability units all within mainstream school and then there are special needs schools. While we can pick the assesment process is for the support needed in school as it is done on a points system. I know that our different states have different rules for kids with autism so perhaps a call to the disability officer at the dept...or email as then they are legally obligated to reply
