My 14 year old son does not get up to use the bathroom at night. He can use the bathroom during the day independently without an issue. He wears a "pull up" to bed, but he is getting bigger and not sure if I should try to have him wear his own underwear with a shield or guard in them or buy the Depends undergarments. On occasion, he will be dry, but on most nights he will fill up the pull up pretty well. I have stopped liquids way before bedtime and such. He gets into such a deep sleep that… read more

I have a 12 year old daughter that is the same way. She gets into a very deep sleep and doesn't wake up to go to the bathroom either. We tried the potty train device from her urologist. That didn't work and then she was diagnosed with enuresis and encopresis. She has grown out of the encopresis but has constant issues with enuresis, which causes terrible boils on her bottom mainly in the winter. She has been using medical pull-ups since she was 5 years old. I'm not sure what your financial situation is, but I'm disabled due to osteonecrosis of the talus bones and receive disability so my daughter is eligible for medicaid, which covers her medical pull-ups for her condition. I will attach a picture of her medical pull-ups that usually work great for her. I believe they come from Wilmington medical supply. Maybe you could look into it.

I will try the depends with the guard. Thank you for your advice. By the way...His twin brother rarely has sleep overs and if he does it is usually in our basement where there is a sleep area. His brother's friends have grown up around Nick so nothing is awkward.

I do not consider Nick an "active adult" but rather a teenage deep sleeper. LOL. I just want him to be a comfortable as possible. That's really it and just had did not have a clue what to try now that he's a teenager.

There is depends type underwear and you could buy a night guard to add to that to prevent leaks. Diapers are hard to place on an active adult, and to get them properly placed they have to lie in their back which can be socially/developmentlly awkward for the twin if he had friends over. It’s hard to be totally private always- so this will prevent those moments from happening. It gives dignity and a little privacy too.

Make it as normal as possible with the adult pull-up underwear. I think drugstores have generic brands too.

Most of the adult products work best when upright, but not so well laying down. We use a fitted brief called better dry. It has a large mat, and is super absorbent. We have had no leaks with them.

The pants. There is less leakage out of the sides with the pants. Also here in TX, CHIP covers the cost of Depends if you buy them from a medical services company such as URS.
