My son doesn't speak so my husband and I accompany him on his 4 paper routes. When I asked him what he thought of our move, he said(FC) everything is perfect "but I have to work". That's when we found the paper delivery job and he loves it. We are presently looking for other jobs as this paper delivery all takes place on one day. I would like to hear what other non-speaking adults have for jobs and how they came about finding them.

My son has had the best “success” with employment when he worked with a non profit who helped teens & young adults on the spectrum…pairing him with a job coach.
Since Covid, he’s gotten jobs independently, and hasn’t fared so well. He’s presently unemployed 😟 & trying to resume his relationship with the non profit… ideally we’re hoping he can connect with a paid internship where he can gain new “marketable” skills.
He generally his gotten along well with female co-workers…they seem to want to adopt him…male co-workers are more standoffish.

I like working a little TOO much, apparently, lol...I have three jobs. I'm a full-time Behavior Management Coordinator for people with developmental disabilities and have two relief positions in residential, one with autistics and the other with people who have mental health diagnoses. I pull about 55-60 hours a week. My driving force? I love people and making connections! I've learned a lot about myself in the process, to boot. I was diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, and anxiety at 25 and ASD Level I at 31. The fact I still live at home helps, as it gives me the time to devote to my jobs! A lot of the behavior position is done from home and in the group homes. I love making an impact!
