Every child is different. My son was put on meds at 14 puberty played a big part of it. He was aggressive towards me and he couldn't keep still. 8 years later same meds behaviour much better!!

That is definitely a decision that you should talk to his doctor about. That being said, I always told myself that I wouldn’t medicate my child unless it’s really impacting his everyday life. Mine starts mainstream Kindergarten this coming September. If he has a real problem sitting or concentrating, or was a disruption to other students, I’d consider it. Some people still think you can “grow out of” or medicate the autism out, neither of which are true. People with autism may appear “normal” to others, when the fact is, that person has gained a lot of coping skills, and done the work. I’ve even heard people that are diagnosed with autism, say they don’t have it anymore. It’s such an odd thing to hear. Sorry, I went on a rant.

It might be a good idea to keep a log of his behaviors so you can figure out what is occurring that is the catalyst for his troublesome behaviors. After a few weeks or maybe a month the log should point to what is setting off his physical or destructive behavior. It could be he is being pushed too hard at school or in therapy which could be resulting in him acting out at home. There is always a reason for our ASD kids behavior, the log should help you discover what leads up to it.

It’s a very personal decision of when to medicate a child. It’s sometimes difficult to get any doctor to prescribe medication for a very young child. I had trouble with my pediatrician prescribing something as a sleep aid for my son when he was 9.

I wanted to add that even celebrities like Dan Aykroyd (whose interest in ghosts and police led to helping to write Ghostbusters and Coneheads), and Daryl Hannah (Splash, Blade Runner, Steel Magnolias) who doesn’t go to premiers, talk shows, or awards ceremonies, because she’s “terrified” (her word) of being around crowds. Theres a lot of others too like Einstein, Elon Musk, Tim Burton (director), Courtney Love (actress/singer), and even Anthony Hopkins. It’s amazing.
