It seems like Liam's school is switching a lot of kids to this uber-ish service called Everdriven due to a bus driver shortage. Liam has never been in a vehicle besides a bus without a parent present. There is no way Liam can get to and from school on time and my husband to work punctually with one vehicle. The online reviews are not making me feel warm and fuzzy. (I have asked he stay on the bus if they are keeping them. I imagine that one person alone also might have a hard time with Liam some… read more

Texas is experiencing a bus driver shortage, affecting many school districts like Manor ISD and Fort Worth ISD, due to factors like recruitment challenges, high turnover, and difficulties in hiring. The shortage is impacting student transportation, leading to delays and requiring drivers to double up on routes. Some proposed solutions include federal legislation to exempt drivers from a specific commercial driver's license (CDL) test requirement, increased funding for better pay, and dedicating staff to focus on recruitment and retention.

How EverDriven helps address the shortage
Alternative transportation: EverDriven provides technology-driven solutions like using SUVs and vans, which are more efficient for smaller groups of students and can help fill gaps in traditional bus fleets.
Flexible routes: The company helps districts create flexible and specialized routes for students with unique needs, such as those with disabilities or housing instability.
Route optimization: EverDriven uses district data to optimize routes, which can help reduce the number of drivers needed.
How Texas districts are responding
Creative solutions: Districts like Manor ISD are implementing creative ideas to address the shortage.
Increased incentives: Some districts are increasing pay, offering sign-on bonuses, and providing paid training to attract new drivers.
Restructuring routes: Districts are restructuring routes by staggering start times or using a multi-tiered system to allow drivers to complete more routes in a day.
Internal solutions: Some districts are using existing staff, such as mechanics and office personnel, to cover bus driving duties when needed.

While there aren't any direct experiences with Everdriven in the search results, transportation changes can be particularly challenging for children with autism who rely heavily on routine. It's completely understandable to have concerns about switching from a familiar bus service to an unfamiliar ride service.

While there aren't any direct experiences with Everdriven in the search results, transportation changes can be particularly challenging for children with autism who rely heavily on routine. It's completely understandable to have concerns about switching from a familiar bus service to an unfamiliar ride service.

Consider discussing these specific concerns with your child's school administration:
- Driver training/experience with autism
- Safety protocols
- Consistency of drivers
- Backup plans if Liam becomes overwhelmed
- Possibility of maintaining current bus service One MyAutismTeam member found that maintaining consistent transportation routines actually helped build valuable structure into their child's day. If the switch to Everdriven becomes necessary, work with the school to create a gradual transition plan that helps Liam adjust to this new routine while ensuring his safety and comfort remain the top priority.
