What public schools in Oakville or Mississauga, Ontario offer the best support for children with autism?

While I don't have specific information about individual schools in Oakville or Mississauga, I can share helpful strategies that MyAutismTeam members have used when choosing schools and preparing their children.

When evaluating schools, consider:

* Whether they have experience supporting children with autism
* Availability of special education teachers and aides
* Options for specialized classrooms or integrated support
* The school's willingness to develop a strong Individualized Education Program (IEP)

To prepare for next year:

Before school programs and additional therapy sessions are excellent steps. Many parents have found success with:

* Speech therapy and occupational therapy to build communication and daily living skills
* Social skills classes to help with peer interactions
* Starting conversations with the school district now about your son's needs and potential IEP services

Important advice from other parents:

Communication is key. A MyAutismTeam member emphasized staying in regular contact with teachers and aides "all year long -- not just during the IEP process." Share what works at home and any changes that might affect your son's day at school.

Consider connecting with local parent support groups in your area who can share specific experiences with schools in Oakville and Mississauga. They'll have firsthand knowledge of which schools provide strong autism support services.
