Members offered warm support to a parent navigating blame from an adult daughter with OCD, Autism, and BPD over past travel restrictions, with the thread revealing the situation stemmed from the daughter losing money to an online scammer and expecting her parents to fund her travels. Several members validated the parent's position, noting that protecting a child's finances is an act of love, while others offered helpful resources like the BPD Alliance's free 12-week class and Autism Speaks' financial planning toolkit. A recurring theme was the hope that the daughter may one day gain perspective, along with encouragement for the parent to seek community support and practical tools.

This is a really good subject to bring up for professional who work with counseling neurodivergent individuals. Lately in the news I hear more and neurodivergent people are taking off from there lives ones because they want to meet with people they perceive as safe or an impulse of just getting out and travel thanks to Uber and Lyft. They don't need to drive themselves.

I have one of these in the making so, I stated going to different cities around us to see how well they would take to adaptation of a new place. So, when they take off can handle the real world by themselves and can't say I shelter them.

So, I am going to research this topic too!

Hm. I wonder how you prevented her travel. If it was by withholding money you thought needed to be allocated to other purposes, then I am inclined to side with you. I would have loved to have done a lot more traveling with my family when my children were younger, but I was having trouble making ends meet as it was. If, on the other hand, you were forcibly preventing her from traveling with her own money during school vacations (assuming she was of age), then she might have a point. Fortunately (or maybe not), she is now on her own and in a position to make such decisions for herself. Hopefully, she will let someone she trusts hold her kite string when she is in manic mode.

And perhaps when/if she finds herself raising a subset of your grandchildren, she will either gain greater appreciation for your position, learn to make wiser decisions than you did, or some combination of the two.

There is a vast amount of information and education about BPD here. My wife and I signed up for a free class that took place over about 12 weeks. No trite answers. Lots of real-world discussion and coping strategies which we found valuable in relating to our loved one with BPD.

@A MyAutismTeam Member that's scary! I wouldn't trust ANYONE online with anything money-related. I'm sorry that happened to her.
