My adult son (24 years of age) has trouble functioning in basic life skills. He has extremely poor short term memory. He is forgetful, loses, misplaces things. He says he does not "track" and cannot perform ordinary, mundane tasks as others do. He is very troubled by this and is searching for answers to this problem.
A blood panel may point to Polycythemia (too many red blood cells) as well. My son has this. It presents a lot like ADD. It's simple to treat. They syphon off about a coke can's worth of blood… read more
I am interested in signing up my daughter for swimming lessons. She loves the water and I notice that she tries to float on her own, but I am not sure If she is capable of succeeding in that due to her lack of listening skills. Is there any other mothers out there that has a child with autism and has them in swimming lessons?
My ASD boy has loved the water since he was little. Baths are his favorite time of the day. He is an amazing swimmer and love his swimming lessons. The worst that can happen is that it does not… read more

My son Diego is 5 and diagnosed with autism. Due to his sensory sensitivity (around his ears and neck) we have a hard time getting him to get a haircut. His last one was in November and very traumatic for him. I have goggled barbershop/salons that are good with autistic kids and have had no luck so far. We took him last summer to snip it’s (Peabody, MA) and it also didn’t go well. The lady wasn’t listening to us and didn’t know how to deal with kids with special needs. I was… read more

Thank you very much
We have recently started to have an issue with our 3 year old wandering. Our house is locked down like an army camp (indoor and outdoor cameras, locks, alarms, etc. He seems to be drawn to water and other very dangerous situations. We moved about one month ago to our new home and last week he escaped around 7pm (after placing his shoes by the door which I believe was strategic), and made it about a block away. He will be 4 in April.
We had to secure windows in the upstairs of our home out of… read more

My son, 4, just got diagnosed with autism and we are still trying to sort everything out. There are times when he says he's too scared to do something. These are things he has done before, like eating a hotdog, or going potty. Is this sonething others have seen? Sometimes i can talk him to do the task, but other times i can not. I do not push him in anyway, just assure him things are okay.
My son is like this too. His anxiety is so bad some days that a task may make him vomit. OT has been helping us with this. My son has selective mutism, he uses a communication device when his anxiety… read more
