Members discussed whether melatonin is safe for people with asthma, with opinions varying from it being a natural substance our bodies already produce to concerns about older research suggesting asthmatics may have higher melatonin levels that could affect lung function. Several members shared that they or their children use both asthma inhalers like albuterol or Pulmicort and melatonin, though some expressed new concerns after learning about potential interactions. A recurring theme was the importance of consulting with a doctor before combining melatonin with asthma medications, especially given that melatonin is metabolized by the liver and can interact with other drugs.

Can you tell me the name of the drug in his inhaler?
Melatonin is metabolized rapidly in the liver by cytochrome P450 isoenzymes 1A2 and 2C19. It can alter the levels of estrogen, and has interactions with other drugs.

Thought so.
It's a common bronchodilator (albuterol). i couldn't find any drug-drug interactions or effects on metabolis.

I don't know why it wouldn't be. Melatonin is a natural substinance that is created by our own bodies to help us have normal sleep/wake cycles. Melatonin is bought over-the-counter in the vitamin/mineral section of your grocery store. It is used by people that have unusual sleep rhythms and by travels adjusting to new time zones.
